The City of Woodstock will host a Ground Breaking Ceremony for the Towne Lake Pass Trail at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday March 4, 2017. The ceremony will be held at Woofstock Park (the City’s dog park) trail head located at 150 Dupree Road. Plans for the Towne Lake Pass Trail were completed in 2016. The City of Woodstock and Cherokee County recently issued a joint resolution dedicating the Towne Lake Pass Trail “in Loving Memory of Council Member Mary Tessa Basford”.
The Joint City/County Resolution states “Council Member Basford was very instrumental in the support and implementation of the Greenprints Plan. Her leadership, love for family, community and those she so graciously served in a legacy too inspirational not to be immortalized.”
Parks and Recreation Director Preston Pooser stated that “Tessa Basford was an incredible advocate of the Woodstock Parks and Recreation Department and the Greenprints Trail System. It is a fitting tribute that the Town Lake Pass Trail be dedicated in her memory.”
Woodstock City Manager Jeff Moon added “besides Tessa’s commitment to the City of Woodstock, she was a long time HOA Board Member for Deer Run and involved in the greater Towne Lake area also. It’s very appropriate for this section of trail to be dedicated to her memory.”
The two-mile long trail will provide a connection from downtown Woodstock to just North of Woodstock High School on Town Lake Hills South Road. Construction will commence in Spring 2017 and will be completed in early to mid-2018 depending on weather.
“I expect that this will be one of our most utilized trails. It will allow people from the Towne Lake area to be able to walk to and from downtown Woodstock to eat dinner and shop” says Mayor Donnie Henriques.
